Ocracoke, NC - Originally built in 1904, the Ocracoke Station Coast Guard facility was recently converted to a teaching center for North Carolina educators. The North Carolina Center for Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is making great use out of this historical building.
In the foreground is Silver Lake. This is where the Swan Quarter and Cedar Island ferries land to load and unload cars and passengers. These ferries take approximately 2:45 to cross the Pamlico Sound. If you want a quicker ferry ride, take Highway 64 east to Manteo and head south on Highway 12 through Cape Hatteras. This ferry is about a 30 minute ride.
